Monroe County to allow early property tax bill payment
Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - County and town tax bills for Monroe County will be prepared early and posted to the county website by December 29 at 9 a.m.
The announcement was made Friday by Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo.
Due to provisions in the recently-approved federal tax plan, people who live in New York could benefit from paying their 2018 town and county taxes before January 1, 2018. Under the tax reform bill, homeowners will no longer be allowed to deduct their state and local property taxes, nor their income taxes over $10,000 from their federal income taxes.
If the homeowner pays in December instead of January, then uses the deduction on their 2017 federal income taxes, it would allow them to deduct the property tax payment from the federal income tax bill.
Dinolfo strongly encourages residents to talk with a tax professional before taking any actions.
Property tax bills can be paid in person or online here.
