New facility for American Packaging in Chili to add 260 new jobs
Chili, N.Y. (WHAM) - A Rochester-based packaging company broke ground Wednesday on its new manufacturing facility in Chili.
American Packaging Corporation started construction on the new 350,000-square-foot facility.
Over the next five years, American Packaging plans to add more than 260 full-time jobs at the facility. The 170 employees working at the company's Rochester plant will continue on there.
More than 100 construction jobs will be supported through this project, as well.
According to Gov. Cuomo, American Packaging had planned to construct their new plant near its facilities in Iowa. After Empire State Development offered up to $14.7 million in performance-based incentives, the company decided to stay in Chili.
In addition to the tax credits and grants from New York state, RG&E will be providing the company with up to $870,000 in grant funding for electric and gas infrastructure. COMIDA will also contribute to the project through a tax agreement.
American Packaging is investing nearly $170 million in this project, according to Gov. Cuomo's office.
American Packaging has been in Rochester since 1902 and functions as a flexible packaging converting business.
The facility is expected to be completed by this December.
