Brockport, N.Y. (WHAM) - Next week will bring a new school year and a new major at the College at Brockport.

Thousands of students unloaded their cars and settled into the college Friday.

Some students will be studying a new major: alcohol and substance abuse.

"We've been long interested in this area," said Dr. Heidi MacPherson, president of the College at Brockport. "We've had expertise in this area for many years - never a standalone. Kids are interested in more than one major. In terms of having an education, if you go into social work, dealing with social issues and problems equipment then you can help people deal with addiction."

There are currently 8,300 students enrolled at the College at Brockport this semester.
