New principal for School 12 to start job Monday
Rochester, N.Y. - Rochester School Board President Van White tells 13WHAM News there will be a new principal at School 12 beginning Monday.
Vicki Gouveia will reportedly be coming out of retirement. She was School 12's former principal, serving at the school for 17 years.
13WHAM is told she will be serving as principal for an indefinite period of time.
White called Gouveia an, "exceptional administrator."
"I think people will feel good about her, given what they've been through," White said Friday.
The Rochester City School District says the previous principal, who was a temporary principal at School 12, was relieved of their duties.
14-year-old RCSD student Trevyan Rowe was attending School 12. Last Thursday, he left school grounds. His body was recovered from the Genesee River four days later, following an extensive search.
Last week, the Rochester City School District admitted several shortcomings after Trevyan went missing. Leaders said they have reason to believe adults tried altering attendance records. In all, three district employees have been placed on administrative leave - and six 911 employees were suspended after city and police officials said proper protocol was not followed after people reported seeing an individual, later believed to be Trevyan, was seen on the Frederick Douglass-Susan B. Anthony Memorial Bridge.
The district says an independent investigation into the matter has been launched.
Trevyan's family said funeral services will be held for him in Arkansas. Calling hours are said to be taking place Thursday.
