Pay up or be paid: Avon homeowners to find out about water bills this week
Avon, N.Y. (WHAM) - People who live in Avon will find out this week whether they will have to pay or be paid over the town's water system.
The town, not the village, gets its water from Conesus Lake. In 2008, the town began estimating its water usage for some customers instead of getting exact readings from the meters at their homes.
Now, some homeowners will get a refund based on their water use. Others could owe more than $2,000 back to the town.
"We've given them incentive to pay pack at a discounted rate," said Avon Town Supervisor David LeFeber. "And we'll extend the time to pay back up to a year."
The amounts were determined after an extensive audit.
The town has set up a hotline for people who want more information about the audit. That number is (833) 500-9669.
