Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - 'Tis the season to stock up on gifts for friends and family.

'Tis also the season for thieves to be busier than ever in stores and neighborhoods.

On Tuesday, Rochester Police warned shoppers who are caught up in the run and not paying attention.

There is an increase in car larcenies this time of year, police say. Many times, thieves are able to get in through unlocked doors.

"Especially during the shopping season, there are a lot of cars in plazas and malls and there are some suspects out there that are window shopping - and not in stores," said Lt. Frank Alberti. "They are window shopping in your cars, looking for packages or anything they can easily get their hands on."

Officers say always lock your doors, set your car alarm and - if you leave anything in your car while you are out shopping - put it in the trunk.
