Red Wings unveil allergy awareness section
Rochester, N.Y. -- Frontier Field has become the first stadium at any level in the country to have seating for families suffering from food and nut allergies.
The field created a section where fans are forbidden to eat peanuts and tree nuts.
Peanuts are a staple at baseball games, so the gesture is appreciated by local families.
“It’s important to us because my son has severe peanut and tree nut allergies, and we feel safer here in this section as a family not being completely surrounded by people eating peanuts around us,” said Michelle Vanderlinden, pleased with new allergy-free seating.
The allergy-free section is also the alcohol-free section.
The Red Wings started the new seating on its third annual Allergy Awareness Day. There are already two grass areas at the stadium that are also allergy-free.
