Rochester man shot while attempting to rob contractor indicted

Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - The man shot while he was allegedly trying to rob a contractor in Rochester has been indicted by a grand jury.

Negus DeSouza, 22, was indicted by a Monroe County grand jury on one count of attempted murder 2nd, one count of attempted assault 1st, one count of attempted robbery 1st, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon 3rd.

On November 10, a man doing some repair work outside of a home on Sixth Street was approached by DeSouza. Officers said DeSouza was holding a gun and attempted to rob him.

Police say the repairman is a licensed firearm owner. During the confrontation, there was reportedly an exchange of gunfire between the repairman and DeSouza.

The repairman was not struck, but DeSouza was shot at least once in the lower body.

The judge who arraigned DeSouza also issued a no contact order of protection.
