Snow moving out, Arctic cold moving in
Rochester, NY - Steady snow is tapering and moving east of Rochester as of this writing. It's time to clean up the snow now as most areas in WNY had between 8-12" of snow from the storm. Through 7 AM Rochester had 9" officially.
A few areas of lake effect snow are likely this evening and tonight, especially north of Rt. 104 and east of Rochester. New snow amounts later tonight will likely range from 2-4", again mainly north of Rochester.
The story will now turn to much colder air moving into the region with the mercury down to the low teens today and near or below zero readings by Sunday morning. The wind chill temperature will drop to between -5 and -15 at times this weekend.
The return to colder temperatures may actually help with local flooding concerns along the Irondequoit, Oatka, and Tonawanda Creeks. Water levels will recede gradually through Sunday. Additional runoff into these tributaries will slow with colder temperatures as water begins to freeze again.
