Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - The union that represents Rochester Police is helping Puerto Rico to recover from Hurricane Maria.

The Rochester Locust Club is hosting a softball tournament Saturday to help raise money for relief efforts.

Rochester Police Officer Bernnie Garcis has a brother in Puerto Rico who he has only spoken to on the phone.

Garcia said others are still struggling to contact their families, more than two weeks after the hurricane.

"There's people lining up on the highway trying to get a signal from their cell phones," Garcia said. "It's awful over there, it's very bad. It's devastated the entire island for the east coast all the way to the west coast."

Officer Garcia said people in Puerto Rico still need water, batteries and flashlights.

The tournament will be held at the Grace and Truth Sports Park in Hilton. More information can be found below.
