Stokoe Farms gathers up trees for troops
Scottsville, N.Y. (WHAM) - Thousands of Christmas trees are on their way to military families - and some are from the Rochester area.
Stokoe Farm in Scottsville are helping with the season of giving with 250 trees of their own this year.
On Friday, workers at the farm gathered the trees as part of the Trees for Troops program.
The trees will be distributed to service members and their families in all branches of the military all over the world.
"The impact of the tree is profound," U.S. Navy Senior Chief Mark Watts said. "Particularly the soldiers that are forward deployed that receive a live tree in the combat zones. The tree itself isn't really the story, it's the smell it brings with it."
Since the program started in 2005, more than 200,000 trees have been delivered from Stokoe Farm to military service members and their families.
