Students get early "taste" of summer

The program makes sure every child in the city has access to free and healthy meals, even when school isn't in session.

Rochester, NY (WHAM) - Kids in Rochester got an early "taste" of what's in store this summer.

Hundreds of students in the Rochester City School District, and their parents, got to try some of the food offered in the summer meals program, at Frontier Field,

The program makes sure every child in the city has access to free and healthy meals, even when school isn't in session.

"We know that over the summertime, it's harder for families to pick up the slack of two extra meals that they might be getting at school during the year," said Dana Faticone from "Common Ground Health."

"Summer meals is a great way to fill in that gap and make sure that kids on only have meals but meals that are delicious and healthy at the same time, she said.

New this year, an expanded mobile initiative will help bring food to areas that might not have access to a nearby site.
