Todd Baxter sworn in as Monroe County Sheriff
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHAM) - Todd Baxter was sworn in as the Monroe County Sheriff Tuesday evening.
Todd Baxter, a former Greece Police Chief, defeated Republican incumbent Patrick O'Flynn in November in the race for Monroe County Sheriff.
O'Flynn had been sheriff for 16 years.
Ahead of Tuesday's ceremony, Baxter said he hopes to utilize the resources of the Sheriff's Office on a number of fronts, including battling the opioid epidemic.
"This is your Sheriff's Office. Expect good service, expect the highly-trained professional law enforcement officer," said Baxter. "We are going to be constantly pushing that envelope of professionalism. We want to be a leader in the community, whether it's technology and law enforcement, or different ways we incarcerate people or transition people out of jail."
