Tops shoppers help to buy 3 million meals for families in need
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WHAM) - More than three million meals were provided to families in need in 2017, thanks to food campaigns by Tops Friendly Markets.
Tops partnered with Foodlink, Food Bank of WNY and several others non-profit organizations to provide the food to hundreds of thousands of people in need.
Shoppers helped to buy Little Brown Bags of Hope and donated to Checkout Hunger.
Little Brown Bags of Hope allowed customers to buy a $5 Breakfast, $10 Lunch, and/or $20 Dinner for a family in need at check out. For the Check Out Hunger campaign, customers were asked by their cashier if they would like to round up their bill, or make a donation of $2, $3, or $5.
“Both of these campaigns offered us the opportunity to come together as a community and show our support for those in need - showing that together we can truly make an amazing difference in so many people’s lives” said Frank Curci, chief executive officer for Tops Friendly Markets.
The meals, which are equal to 30 tractor trailer trucks of food, will go to food banks across New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont. All of the donations stayed in the areas where the donations were made.
