Two dogs killed in Sweden barn fire

The Brockport Fire Department was assisted at the scene by seven surrounding fire companies. Over 50 firefighters fought the blaze.

SWEDEN, N.Y. (WHAM) - Two dogs were killed after a barn caught fire in the town of Sweden late Friday night.

According to the Brockport Fire District, the call reporting the barn fire at 504 Salmon Creek Road came in around 11:15.

The Brockport Fire Department was assisted at the scene by seven surrounding fire companies. Over 50 firefighters fought the blaze.

Two dogs were lost in the fire.

No injuries were reported.

District Fire Chief Scott Smith said road conditions impacted the response time, and cold temperatures impacted firefighting efforts.

Since there were no hydrants in the area of the fire, crews had to perform a "tanker ops" to shuttle water from the nearest hydrant to the scene.

Crews were able to be back on assignment around 2 a.m., however they were still cleaning up around 4:30 a.m.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
