Warren officially receives Democratic Party nomination in reelection bid
Rochester, N.Y. – Thursday night, Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren officially received the Monroe County Democratic Committee’s endorsement in her bid for reelection.
Warren is seeking a second term as mayor.
“I thank you all for recognizing that we are moving forward and the progress that we have made together is too vast and too important to change directions and go another course,” Warren said Thursday. “We have created jobs, we have made our neighborhoods safer and more vibrant and we have created better educational opportunities for our children. And we are not finished yet.”
Warren is being challenged by two fellow Democrats, County Legislator James Sheppard and former television news personality Rachel Barnhart.
Barnhart, who did not attend Thursday’s nomination ceremony, released a statement which read, in part, “Absolutely nothing has changed in Lovely Warren’s three years in office. She’s also repeatedly demonstrated a lack of ethics and judgment. As for James Sheppard, his empty campaign is based on pure revenge. He also has a tremendous amount of baggage, from his failure to vote between 1981 and 2013 and his stunning failures as a police chief.”
Republican County Legislator Tony Micciche and Green Party candidate Alex White have also announced their candidacies for Rochester mayor.
