Woman escapes house fire on Adams St. with help from neighbor

Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - Rochester firefighters are investigating what caused a house fire on Adams Street Friday morning.

It happened around 8:43 a.m. at a two-story single family home.

Fire crews say they located the fire in the front room of the second floor.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in 30 minutes.

There was one woman home at the time. A neighbor, who is also a member of the Rochester Protectives, was on his way to class when he saw the smoke and called 911.

He then helped the woman get out of the house.

There was moderate damage to the home.

The Red cross is assisting.

Firefighters say there were no working smoke detectors in the home.
