Woman robbed at knifepoint in Newark; police arrest 1 of 3 suspects
Newark, N.Y. (WHAM) - A Henrietta man was arrested Tuesday after police say he and two other men robbed a woman at knifepoint in the village of Newark.
According to our news partners at the Times of Wayne County, a woman was walking along West Avenue and Davis Drive around 8:15 p.m. when three men walked up to her. One of the men pulled out a knife and stole her smartphone.
Police said they were one block away when they received a call about the robbery, spotted the three men and chased after them.
The three reportedly split up and ran away. One officer chased after 19-year-old Skylar Moreno through Perkins Park, through a creek and into a wooded area before taking him into custody.
A Wayne County Sheriff's Office K9 unit backtracked the chase route and were able to recover the stolen phone and mask Moreno wore during the robbery. Mareno was allegedly carrying the knife used in the robbery when he was arrested.
Mareno, who is from Henrietta, was arrested and charged with robbery 1st and grand larceny 4th. He was then arraigned and remanded to the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail.
He is scheduled to reappear in court on May 15.
Police say they are working to identify the remaining two suspects.
