Forever stamps will cost 49 cents, starting Sunday
(WHAM) - The popular "Forever" stamp used by the United States Postal Service (USPS) will be raising its price.
Starting Sunday, the forever stamp will cost 49 cents, up from 47 cents, to mail a one-ounce first-class letter.
The last time a change in stamp prices happened was in January 2014.
The change was first announced back in October, despite the fact that the change doesn't take effect until Sunday, January 22.
Postcards, letters being mailed to international addresses, and heavier letters won't be affected by the price change.
The reason behind the price increase? USPS said it needs to periodically adjust the price of postage to stay consistent with the average annual rate of inflation, according to the press release.
