Trump proclaims flags be flown at half-staff for 5 days to honor Florida shooting victims
WASHINGTON (WJLA) - President Trump has issued a proclamation saying that American flags will be be flown at half-staff for five days as "a mark of solemn respect" for the victims of the Florida school shooting.
17 people are dead and multiple others are injured after authorities say a gunman opened fire Wednesday at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Police later arrested 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz and charged him with 17 counts of premeditated murder.
"Our Nation grieves with those who have lost loved ones in the shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida," Trump said in the statement.
All United States flags will fly at half-staff at the White House and all public grounds, military bases and U.S. Navy ships "throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions" until Monday at sunset.
