CBS12 Investigates: Taking an Uber over an ambulance in an emergency

(WPEC)

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (WPEC) - Why dial 911 and pay hundreds for an ambulance ride when you can just order Uber?

CBS12 Investigates found patients ordering Uber instead of calling 911 during a medical emergency. Hear stories from Uber drivers of people getting in their ride-sharing cars instead of an ambulance.

"I said to him, 'Why didn't you call an ambulance?' His hand was bleeding. He goes, 'Because you're quicker and you're cheaper.' I drove him to St. Mary’s," said one Uber driver.

"I've had people get in my car. They're dizzy. They don't feel well. Their chest hurts," said another.

Does the short-term savings on the cost of an ambulance have lifelong consequences?

Well, also hear from an emergency room doctor. He'd use an Uber.

The cost-cutting measure that could cost you your life, Monday at 11 p.m. on CBS12 News.
