Man shot, killed outside Rochester club on Central Avenue
Rochester, N.Y. - Rochester Police are investigating after a man was shot dead outside a downtown club overnight Monday.
Investigators identified the man as Melvin White, Jr., 36, of Rochester, was shot on Central Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Monday.
He was rushed to the hospital via AMR Ambulance, where he later died.
"I wish I could tell him again that I love him," said Melvin White Sr., White's father. "I was hoping that my children would be at my wake and my funeral. I don't want to be at no more of my children wakes and funerals."
Melvin White senior lost another son to violence in 2001. Now he's dealing with that loss again.
"They say it was a robbery," he said. "I don't know if he fought back or .... but he wound up on the losing end."
White describes his son as respectful and pleasant to be around.
"It was 'yes sir, yes ma’am'," he added.
White now leans on his faith to get him through the death of his second oldest son.
"I'm going through it again, but the God I serve will take care of me," he said.
Police have not released information about a motive but are reviewing surveillance video to determine what happened. No suspects are in custody as of Monday late morning.
