Rochester woman charged with murdering newborn baby
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHAM) - Rochester police arrested a Rochester woman and charged her with murdering her newborn child.
Police charged Lashae Bennett, 22, with second-degree murder in the child's death. Officers did not specify the manner of the death or when it occurred.
It is unknown when Bennett will be arraigned in connection with the crime.
Mary, a neighbor who has lived next door to Bennett for 11 years, told 13WHAM News she did not know Bennett was pregnant.
According to the neighbor, Bennett has another young child - a boy who is 2 or 3 years old.
"When I saw her and her little boy, they seemed happy," Mary said. "She seemed like she takes care of the little boy."
Mary added she never saw police or investigators at the home, which she said made the news of her neighbor's arrest even more shocking.
Due to the nature of the charges, the indictment against Bennett is sealed.
The Major Crimes Unit is investigating the case and will provide more information as it becomes available.
13WHAM News will continue to update this story as information is released.
