Couple moves wedding from Florida to Greece as hurricane approaches
Greece, N.Y. – As Hurricane Irma heads toward Florida, a Rochester couple is re-planning their wedding in just three days.
Sarah Fischetto and Justin Stewart spent the last year planning for a destination wedding at the Marriott in West Palm Beach, Florida.
“Tuesday, the hotel emailed us and they were like, 'Just so you know, this is what’s going on. We might not be able to service the wedding,'” said Fischetto. “The hotel has been absolutely amazing, [saying] it’s not your fault what so ever, you get everything back.”
The couple immediately started looking in the Rochester area.
The Rochester Airport Marriott in Greece just happened to have this Saturday open, allowing the couple to keep their original wedding date.
“I can’t remember dates, so I thought 9/9 would be good,” said Fischetto.
“You got to give it to the Marriott to getting us in so quickly,” said Stewart. “My friends say a hurricane canceling my wedding is a sign, but I suppose it's a sign to have another Marriott available at the same time.”
The couple has been busy, so they have a lot of people around them, making sure everything is ready for Saturday.
“We've had so many people willing to help us in any way, shape or form that they can,” said Fischetto.
It's something she and her groom are grateful for, while not losing sight of what could happen to their original venue.
“It's crazy something this big happens to be this weekend,” said Fischetto.
“In the grand scheme of things, us losing our wedding is nothing compared to the loss some people are dealing with right now,” said Stewart.
