Lancers fall to 0-3 after loss to Syracuse - 11/24/13
(Rochester, NY) "5,169fans attended Saturdays match between the Rochester Lancers and the SyracuseSilver Knights at the Blue Cross Arena despite the first winter storm warningof the season. Rochesters Elliot Fauske tallied a pair of goals,but that couldnt stop the Rochester Lancers (0-3) from falling to the visitingSyracuse Silver Knights (3-0) by a score of 20-8. The Lancers will get a breakduring Thanksgiving week before hosting the expansion Pennsylvania Roar onFriday, December 6th.
LJPapaleo opened the scoring for the visitors less than five minutesinto the game. The Silver Knights would later double their lead when Kenardo Forbes headed home a Machel Millwood cross to make it 4-0Syracuse after one quarter of play.
Fauske responded for Rochester, scoring for the thirdstraight game to cut the Syracuse lead in half midway through the secondquarter. The Lancers tied things up when PedrinhoFranco set up Fauske for his second goal of the quarter to make thehalftime score 4-4.
The Silver Knights regained the lead when Nelson Santana dispossessed Lancersgoalkeeper Patrick Hannigan andscored from beyond the 3-point arc and into the empty Lancer goal. Santanawould then set up Nate Bourdeau fora goal that just snuck past Hannigan to give Syracuse their biggest lead at thatpoint of 9-4. The Lancers answered back when Joey Tavernese took a restart and set up Gary Boughton for the goal, before Syracuses Bozidar Jelovac scored just before the end of the quarter to givethe visitors an 11-6 lead heading into the final fifteen minutes of play.
SlavisaUbiparapovic struck first in the final stanza on a shot thatjust snuck inside the near post. With Edgarwearing the sixth attacker jersey for the Lancers, Forbes increased theSyracuse lead on the counter attack from just outside the
3-point arc to push the Silver Knights lead to 16-6. The Lancers hung tough getting on the boardin the final quarter when Boughton set up Pedrinho for the goal. With under twominutes left, Forbes set up Jelovac for the back post one timer to push theSyracuse lead back to ten points at 18-8. Syracuse added a late goal with 2.9seconds left to make the final score 20-8 for the Silver Knights.
