Jim Kelly moves out of intensive care, making progress post-surgery
Orchard Park, N.Y. (WHAM) - Former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly has taken an important step in his post-cancer surgery process.
The Buffalo Bills announced Friday that Kelly has been moved out of the intensive care unit.
The Hall of Fame quarterback is recovering from oral cancer surgery on March 28.
“ He has been moved out of the intensive care unit and made that transition by walking, on his own, from the unit to the inpatient floor where he will continue the next phase of care," said Dr. Mark Urken, Head and Neck Surgeon from Mount Sinai West.
Kelly is still several days away from being able to swallow and eat, but continues to progress well.
“Dr. Urken and his team continue to provide excellent care and support for Jim and our family," said Jill Kelly, Jim's wife. "As we navigate through this next phase of healing we will continue to trust God…one day at a time, one prayer at a time. We would appreciate your continued prayer support.”
