(Rochester, NY) – The Minnesota Twins announced on Friday that 1B/OF Chris Colabello has been optioned back to Rochester after catcher Ryan Doumit was reinstated off the disabled list. A corresponding move to make room for Colabello on the Red Wings roster will be made on Saturday.
Over his most recent Major League stint, Colabello hit .243 (17-for-70) with four home runs and eight RBI in 22 games. He was batting .368 (7-for-19) with home run, double and two RBI over his last six games.
Back with Rochester, the Wings All-Star slugger will have a chance to make a run at the International League Triple Crown. Colabello currently leads the IL in batting at .354 (36 points clear of the rest of the league), ranks 4th in homers with 24 (four back of BUF’s Mauro Gomez, GWN’s Ernesto Mejia and SYR’s Zach Walters) and is 3rd in RBI with 76 (three behind Mejia). The 29-year-old, who is in just his second season of affiliated ball, also leads the league in OBP (.432) and SLG (.652).
Colabello will be a valuable addition to the Red Wings lineup as they enter the final 17 games of the regular season with a 2.0-game lead in the IL North over Pawtucket. The Wings, after a season-long 11-game, 12-day road trip, will return to Frontier Field on Saturday to play 14 of their last 16 games at home where they have won 19 of their last 24 affairs.
