Lancers blown out in home finale

Rochester, NY – The Rochester Lancers (6-13) played their home finale in front of 8910 fans as the Baltimore Blast (16-3) spoiled the afternoon with a 22-5 win. The Lancers would get goals from Mauricio Salles and Elliot Fauske as they battle for the team’s scoring lead. Marc Sotile was back in goal for the Lancers and made 11 saves in the loss. The Lancers will close out the 2013-14 campaign next Sunday afternoon when they travel to face the Syracuse Silver Knights.
The Blast would open the scoring about ten minutes in when Mike Lookingland took a shot from beyond the 3-point arc that eluded Sotile. With under a minute left in the quarter, Lucas Roque would collect the rebound of his own shot and score to put the Blast up 5-0 after fifteen minutes of play.
Just over three minutes into the second quarter, the Blast extended their lead when they converted a top of the arc restart and Lookingland set up Marco Mangione for the goal. About six minutes later, the Blast would get a 3-point power play goal when Roque set up Lucio Gonzaga and he slotted one just inside the left post. The Blast would get a goal with under a minute left in the half when JT Noone cleaned up the rebound of the Levi Houapeu shot to make it 12-0 Baltimore at the half.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Pat Healey played a long ball and Adriano Dos Santos one timed it home past Sotile. Less than two minutes later the Lancers would get on the board when Salles took a yellow line restart, it took a deflection, and went in for the 3-point goal. With under five minutes left in the quarter, Dos Santos would get his second goal of the game. Less than a minute later, the Blast would extend their lead when Drew Yates set up Roque for a goal. A little over a minute later, Tony Donatelli would set up Houapeu for the bad angle goal to give the visitors a 20-3 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
With a little over three minutes left, Donatelli corralled the rebound of the Roque shot and slotted it just inside the left post. With less than a minute to go, Joey Tavernese would set up Fauske for the goal to make the final score 22-5 for the Blast.
The Lancers will close out their 2013-14 MISL season when they travel to face the Syracuse Silver Knights on Sunday March 2nd at 4pm.
