(Rochester, NY) –5,169 fans attended Saturday’s match between the Rochester Lancers and the Syracuse Silver Knights at the Blue Cross Arena despite the first winter storm warning of the season. Rochester’s Elliot Fauske tallied a pair of goals, but that couldn’t stop the Rochester Lancers (0-3) from falling to the visiting Syracuse Silver Knights (3-0) by a score of 20-8. The Lancers will get a break during Thanksgiving week before hosting the expansion Pennsylvania Roar on Friday, December 6th.
LJ Papaleo opened the scoring for the visitors less than five minutes into the game. The Silver Knights would later double their lead when Kenardo Forbes headed home a Machel Millwood cross to make it 4-0 Syracuse after one quarter of play.
Fauske responded for Rochester, scoring for the third straight game to cut the Syracuse lead in half midway through the second quarter. The Lancers tied things up when Pedrinho Franco set up Fauske for his second goal of the quarter to make the halftime score 4-4.
The Silver Knights regained the lead when Nelson Santana dispossessed Lancers goalkeeper Patrick Hannigan and scored from beyond the 3-point arc and into the empty Lancer goal. Santana would then set up Nate Bourdeau for a goal that just snuck past Hannigan to give Syracuse their biggest lead at that point of 9-4. The Lancers answered back when Joey Tavernese took a restart and set up Gary Boughton for the goal, before Syracuse’s Bozidar Jelovac scored just before the end of the quarter to give the visitors an 11-6 lead heading into the final fifteen minutes of play.
Slavisa Ubiparapovic struck first in the final stanza on a shot that just snuck inside the near post. With Edgar wearing the sixth attacker jersey for the Lancers, Forbes increased the Syracuse lead on the counter attack from just outside the
3-point arc to push the Silver Knights lead to 16-6. The Lancers hung tough getting on the board in the final quarter when Boughton set up Pedrinho for the goal. With under two minutes left, Forbes set up Jelovac for the back post one timer to push the Syracuse lead back to ten points at 18-8. Syracuse added a late goal with 2.9 seconds left to make the final score 20-8 for the Silver Knights.
