Colon called up to Minnesota after just one start in Rochester
Sorry, Rochester baseball fans, but Bartolo Colon will not be starting for the Red Wings "Rochester Plates" promotion on August 10.
In fact, he won't make a home start at all.
Colon was called up to Minnesota on Saturday after just one start with the Wings. He is expected to make his Twins debut on Tuesday against the Yankees.
Colon, who signed a minor league contract with the Twins last week, lasted just 3.2 innings against Lehigh Valley on Thursday, allowing four runs while striking out five. But the Twins apparently saw enough that they liked to give him a shot in a struggling rotation.
The 44-year-old pitched in the big leagues with Atlanta earlier this season, but was shelled, going just 2-8 with a 8.14 era before being released.
But the Twins hope he still has some of that late career magic he showed with the Mets over the three seasons prior to this one. Colon went 44-34 with a 3.90 era over 98 starts with New York between 2014 and '16.
