Nazareth College Men Pick Up Basketball Victory over the Ducks
Rochester, NY – Nazareth's depth showed through Saturday afternoon as it used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Stevens, 87-69, at Kidera Gymnasium. With the win, Nazareth improves to 15-6 overall and 10-2 in Empire 8 play, while the Ducks drop to 16-5 and 10-2, respectively. Nazareth, who has now defeated Stevens twice this season, sits with the top spot in the conference due to the head-to-head wins.
Nazareth mounted an 18-point halftime lead and closed the second half strong to secure its fourth-straight victory.
Stevens was able to slowly chip into the double-digit margin, eventually making it 68-59 with 6:58 on the clock.
That didn't last long, however, as Daniel Jacob hammered in his third 3-pointer to ignite the offense and the Golden Flyers kept a double-digit advantage the rest of the way. The junior, who went for a career-high 20 points against Hartwick Friday, finished with 17 (7-for-8) Saturday.
The Golden Flyers had an impressive first half, using balanced offensive contributions to build a 45-27 margin into the break. Cody Green had eight, points while Jacob and Jake Burgio each had seven.
Six of Green's first half points came on back-to-back triples early to make it 18-11. He was 6-for-12 in the game for 15 points.
Nazareth, which started 6-of-8 from 3-point range, saw Brendan Broderick connect to make it 23-12.
The Golden Flyers had just one turnover in the half and shot 55.9 percent (33-for-59) in the game.
Stephen Gabel contributed nine points, while Chris Jones and Tyler Stenglein had eight. Burgio and Brendan Wind each had seven points and four assists in the victory.
Nazareth returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to Elmira for a 6 p.m. contest.
