Spencerport Rangers hope to keep winning streak going Friday night

Friday night is a beautiful one in Canandaigua. That’s where the Spencerport Rangers are hoping to continue their winning streak, after last week’s victory.

Spencerport has struggled in the past, but the Rangers say, this season, they’re working on creating something special.

The Rangers have 32 players on their roster – no sophomores or freshmen, just juniors and seniors. For eighth year coach John Dowd, that’s exactly what he wanted.

“There completely bought in,” said Dowd. “They know the end is near, and they play with reckless abandon. And I think it’s definitely a year for us where we can try to do something special.”

Something special is what Spencerport has been chasing for quite some time. But even after going 500 last year, the Rangers think they got it right this season, and it starts in the backfield with Alton Jones, Jr. Last year, he set the Section V rushing record – 491 yards and eight touchdowns, all in one game. And big plays from him is exactly what this teams wants and needs as it pushes toward putting together a sectional-worthy season.

Friday, the Rangers have a chance to make some history, as Spencerport has never beaten Canandaigua before. They’ll have another shot at 7 p.m. We’ll have the highlights on 13WHAM News at 10 and 11.
