Knighthawks beat Georgia, now NLL Championship bound
A wild game on Saturday night as the Knighthawks closed out the Georgia Swarm 9-8 in the Eastern Final to now head to the NLL Championship series.
What started as a low scoring game (it was just 4-3 after three) quickly escalated into a wild affair. Rochester scored the first four of the final quarter to take an 8-4 lead. Georgia appeared to come back and tie it on a goal by Lyle Thompson, but it was overturned. Moments later, Austin Shanks gave Rochester a two goal advantage. Thompson's no-goal would be reviewed, but the ruling would be upheld.
Georgia would get one back, but the Swarm would get no closer than that.
Veteran goalie Matt Vinc had 45 saves.
Rochester will play the winner of Sunday's Western division final between Calgary and Saskatchewan. If Calgary wins, the Knighthawks will host game one on Sunday, May 20 at 6 pm, and if necessary, game three on Saturday June 2 at 8 pm. Game two would be in Calgary on Saturday, May 26.
If Saskatchewan wins, the Knighthawks will hit the road for game one on Saturday, May 26, and if necessary game three on Saturday, June 9. Rochester would host game two Saturday, June 2 at 8 pm.
