PawSox rally to beat Red Wings 5-3

The Rochester Red Wings dropped a 5-3 contest to the Pawtucket Red Sox Saturday night at Frontier Field. With Lehigh Valley rained out Saturday night, the Wings' magic number for clinching a playoff spot remains at two. The series continues Sunday at 6:05 p.m., with fireworks after the game and a Byron Buxton bobble head giveaway.

Red Wings rookie starter Felix Jorge worked around a single in the top of the first inning, helped out by a nice sliding catch in left field by J.B. Shuck. PawSox starter Hector Velazquez set down the Wings in order in the bottom of the first, then exited the game as scheduled with former Wing Marcus Walden taking over on the mound.

After back-to-back singles by Anthony Recker and Tommy Field to begin the bottom of the third inning, Rochester jumped on the board first with a two-RBI double by Levi Michael. A Matt Hague sac fly later in the inning made it a 3-0 ball game.

Pawtucket quickly cut into the deficit as a Dan Butler two-RBI double made the score 3-2 in the top of the fourth inning.

Following a leadoff walk and single in the top of the fifth inning, the Red Sox tied the game at 3-3 on a sac fly by Matt Dominguez.

Jorge exited the game following the sac fly and was replaced by Luke Bard. The starter finished with 4.1 innings of work, allowing three earned runs on seven hits, two walks and no strikeouts. He threw 64 pitches - 36 for strikes.

Rochester loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a hit batsman and singles by ByungHo Park and Leonardo Reginatto, but they weren't able to capitalize on the scoring opportunity. Pawtucket was able to get out of trouble via a popout and two strikeouts.

Michael Kohn relieved Bard to begin the top of the seventh inning, making his first appearance for the Red Wings this season. Bard finished with 1.2 scoreless innings while striking out four.

The Red Sox took their first lead of the game on a Jeremy Barfield solo home run in the top of the seventh inning, giving Pawtucket a 4-3 advantage.

Kohn exited the game in favor of Jake Reed to begin the top of the eighth inning after Kohn had given up the go-ahead run in one inning of work. Pawtucket added an insurance run off Reed on an RBI single, making it a 5-3 game in the top of the eighth inning.

After giving up one run on three hits in one inning pitched, Yohan Pino came in for Reed to start the top of the ninth inning.

Winning Pitcher: Olmos (9-3)

Losing Pitcher: Kohn (0-1)

Save: Taylor (2)

NOTES: The Twins' minor league clubs entered play Saturday with a winning percentage of .592 (440-303), tops in baseball and just ahead of the Yankees (.589, 512-358 with one additional minor league club)...
