Pedroia goes hitless as Gonsalves shuts down Pawtucket 2-0
Dustin Pedroia's rehab stint continued in Rochester on Friday, and plenty of Red Sox fans came out to support the two-time World Series champ.
But it was the Red Wings fans who went home happy.
Stephen Gonsalves went 5.1 innings, striking out 11, and the Wings bullpen preserved the shutout and the 2-0 victory.
Jake Cave's RBI single in the third and Willians Astudillo's solo home run in the fourth was all the scoring Rochester could muster, but it was all they would need.
Pedroia, playing in his second game with Pawtucket, struck out in his first at bat against Gonsalves, walked in his next two, then went down looking in his final plate appearance in the seventh. He is working his way back from offseason knee surgery, and there is no exact timetable for his return to the major leagues.
With the Win, the Red Wings improved to 19-16 on the season, and are just a half game out of first place in the IL North. The same two teams are scheduled to play again Saturday night at 7:05 at Frontier Field.
