Red Wings dominate Chiefs in series opener

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) -- Niko Goodrum homered and singled, driving in three runs and scoring a pair as the Rochester Red Wings defeated the Syracuse Chiefs 9-3 on Friday.

Mitch Garver homered and singled with two runs for Rochester.

Syracuse took a 2-1 lead in the second after Emmanuel Burriss hit a two-run single.

The Red Wings took the lead for good with eight runs in the third inning. The Red Wings sent 11 men to the plate as Goodrum hit a three-run home run and Garver hit a solo home run en route to the seven-run lead.

Rochester southpaw David Hurlbut (6-5) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing two runs on seven hits over six innings. Opposing starter A.J. Cole (4-3) took the loss in the International League game after giving up eight runs and 11 hits over 2 2/3 innings.
