Wings pitchers sharp, but bats and gloves shaky in 2-1 loss in opener
The Red Wings waited four days to open their season, but wish it began a little differently.
Aaron Slegers went six strong innings allowing just one run. He was followed by Tyler Duffey who didn't allow a hit and didn't walk a batter.
But the normally sure-gloved Zack Granite's three-base error in the ninth led to the game-winning sacrifice fly, and the Rochester bats never got going in a 2-1 season-opening loss.
Rochester had plenty of opportunities to bring men across the plate, but went 0-10 with runners in scoring position, and left 16 people on base.
The same two teams will try and play again on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 pm. Adalberto Mejia will take the ball for the Wings against Cesar Vargas for the Chiefs.
