Doug Emblidge became interested in broadcasting when he toured WOKR-TV as a boy. These days, he's living out that boyhood dream, anchoring the hour-long 13WHAM News at 5:00 and Good Day Rochester, as well as reporting on a variety of topics on both 13WHAM ABC and FOX Rochester.
No one would have been surprised if Doug had become a pharmacist, however. After all, his father and grandfather owned drug stores in Honeoye Falls and Scottsville, and on Chili Avenue in Rochester. But that station visit, along with meeting Dick Burt and Don Alhart, convinced Doug he wanted to work in broadcast news...and he wanted to do it at Channel 13.
After graduating from Rush-Henrietta High School, Doug went on to earn a Bachelor's degree at Syracuse University. He joined WOKR-TV in 1983 to anchor a program called NewsScope. The program didn't last long, but Doug did. Doug went on to anchor weekends and report news. From 1986 to 1989, Doug anchored weeknight sportscasts. In 1989, he returned to news to anchor the station's new 5 PM newscast. In 2000, Doug took on additional duties as anchor of 13WHAM News This Morning, which became Good Day Rochester.
You can also listen to Doug on the radio weekday mornings on 95.1 The Fox. Doug serves on the boards of Camp Stella Maris, ABVI-Goodwill and Daystar, a unique daycare and foster home for babies with serious medical issues. He and his wife, Coleen, have three children.
