One dead, one charged in Pittsford crash

Pittsford, N.Y. Michael J. Weber Jr., 20, has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving after a deadly crash in Pittsford early Monday morning.

Investigators say Weber was behind the wheel when he lost control of his car, took out a stop sign, and then slammed into a tree while driving on East Street near Woodstock Lane.

His passenger, 20-year-old Joel Ajavon, died at the scene.

Weber suffered serious injuries and was immediately transported to Strong Hospital, where he remains in satisfactory condition Monday night.

According to the Monroe County Sheriffs Department, Weber appeared to have been drinking and speeding.

Friends have set up a small memorial at the scene of the crash.

"Our Pittsford family, we all know each other, we've all done Boy Scouts together, we all played soccer together, we all know each other," said Julius Avorkliyah, a friend of Ajavon. "Everything that's going on right now is difficult. Out of all my friends that have come and gone, he was one of the friends I've had the longest."
