RGHS, Unity agree to form new health care system

Rochester, N.Y. - The Boards of Directors of Unity Health System and Rochester General Health System approved an affiliation agreement Wednesday that would allow for the two organizations to come together and form a new health care system.

Unity and RGHS agreed to enter into discussions last April.

Under the plan, a single health care system would be formed and will be governed by one Board of Directors.

Approval of the affiliation agreement is a milestone in the process because it moves Aprils handshake agreement between Unity and RGHS to a formal relationship that demonstrates both organizations total commitment to make this merger happen, said Warren Hern, president and chief executive officer, Unity Health System.

The two companies will now move forward with regulatory filings that could take six to 12 months to complete.
