Dunkin Donuts divides Honeoye Falls

Honeoye Falls, N.Y. Dunkin Donuts wants to build a drive-thru restaurant in Honeoye Falls.

The request has whipped up a piping hot controversy with some residents saying the fast-food chain runs counter to the villages character.

I think it takes away from the small-town vibe, said Chuck Masek, who moved from Park Ave. in Rochester to Honeoye Falls.

Honeoye Falls Mayor Richard Milne says the village would do well to accept a mixture of businesses.

He adds the Dunkin Donuts would be located in the commercial corner of the village, but bringing it in would still require a change to zoning laws.

I look at this as a business that would bring in some tax revenue and would give people a choice, Milne said.

Masek says changing the zoning laws might open the village up to a Taco Bell or Burger King.

I personally wouldnt want them around and most people around here wouldnt want them either, he said.

The village board is now crafting the zoning change and will make it available to the public before a public hearing on Oct. 21.
