Movie theater fight witness reflects on brawl

Irondequoit, N.Y. A day after a large fight broke out at the Regal Cinemas in the Culver-Ridge Plaza in Irondequoit, people were heading back into the theater.

But some are now avoiding the night showings.

This here was a mess, said Lorraine Williams who was at the theater Friday night with her family when the fights broke out. I've never seen so many kids and so many cops. You can't even come into a movie here at night. It don't make any sense anymore, so like today I brought them here at two o'clock, too scared to go back at night.

Williams was at the theater to watch Insidious: Chapter 2," the same movie Irondequoit Police said the teens that started fighting went to.

A group of some girls and some guys started fighting next to where you get the popcorn and everything, they started fighting in there and then it just escalated, said Tamika Brown who was at the theater with Williams.

According to police, 400-500 teens were fighting in the theater, lobby and outside around 9:40 Friday night.

Police called in back-up from the Rochester Police Department, Webster Police Department, NY State Police and the Monroe County Sheriffs Office.

RTS was also called to the scene to transport some of the teens home since the theater was forced to close early and many didnt have a ride.

Police do not believe the fights were planned.

No one was hurt.

One person was arrested for disorderly conduct.

This isnt the first time a large fight has started at this theater.

In January 2004, a fight broke out that injured police officers and resulted in a number of assault arrests.
