Rose Chase opts to go to trial

Canandaigua, N.Y. - The Canandaigua woman who admitted to police she cut up her husband's decomposing body and tried to burn it has rejected a plea offer that would have avoided a trial.

Under the proposed deal, Rose Chase would have served 20 years to life in prison in exchange for a guilty plea to all charges. In a brief court appearance in Canandaigua Tuesday, her attorney said she will go to trial.

Chase was charged in December 2012 with murdering her husband Adam Chase. Police say she pushed him down the basement stairs during an argument; he died from the fall. Chase left him lying there for six weeks.

Chase then reported him missing before police said she later removed his decomposing body in pieces and brought it to her mother's home in Yates County. She later burned and buried and remains.

A trial date has been set for October 7 in Ontario County Court.
