Families defend bikers in road rage incident

New York City -- There are new details on the road rage incident caught on camera involving an SUV and a group of motorcyclists from an unauthorized bike rally Sunday.

The driver of the SUV made an attempt to escape the group and hit several bikers while driving away. Police say the driver was scared for his life. Some of the bikers later surrounded the SUV when it was stopped in traffic and beat the driver.

At least one of the bikers is now charged with a crime, and one of the bikers who was hit by the SUV may now be paralyzed.

All his ribs are fractured, said Yolanda Santiago, the mother of that biker. His lungs are so badly bruised that hes still on a ventilator. Santiago said her family does not condone the violence.

Meanwhile, the wife of another motorcycle rider involved says he's the victim.

Dayana Mieses says her husband, Edwin Mieses, suffered broken legs and spine injuries and will be paralyzed. She says her husband was trying to help a fellow biker who was struck.

The driver of the SUV needed stitches. His wife and toddler were in the car but weren't injured.
