Chili firefighter's furry discovery

Chili, N.Y. - Forget what you heard about firefighters scaling your neighborhood tree to bring down the neighborhood cat.

In the case of the Chili Fire Department, the cats were in their backyard.

Matthew Pillsbury was one of the firefighters working on a routine training drill earlier this month.

We were running some hose and flowing some water and another firefighter I was with asked if I heard some meowing, Pillsbury said.

What he heard was the sounds of four kittens seeking shelter in an old suburban.

The fire department used that vehicle to practice using the Jaws of Life.

Fortunately it wasn't being used when the kittens were found.

His name is Bob, said fireman Patsy Iacovangelo.

It was a match made in heaven for Iacovangelo who adopted Bob.

He kind of fell asleep on me and I said this one is mine, Iacovangelo said.

But he stopped first at calling the pairing love at first sight.

I don't know about all that, Iacovangelo laughed.

But for the men who appear tough and fight fires and save lives under circumstances the average person might fear, these men show a sensitive side.

We do have soft spots, we try not to let anyone see them but they're there, Iacovangelo said.

We're not all rough and tough guys, Pillsbury said. You can't say no to this cuteness.
There were six kittens found in that truck, sadly two died and their mom was nowhere to be found.

The four surviving kittens had new homes within a week.
