Soldiers deploy, say goodbye to families

Rochester, N.Y. - More than 110 National Guard soldiers left Rochester Friday morning for Fort Hood, Texas.

The 642nd aviation support battalion is headed to Kuwait later this fall for another year-long deployment, where they'll provide maintenance and support for a variety of military vehicles, both ground and air.

Though the soldiers are now used to being deployed, their families are never used to seeing them go.

"They know they've got a job to do, and at the same time, they have to say goodbye to their families," said Sergeant Major Mark Wison. "The families have it tougher. They have to stand here and watch their loved ones leave."

Captain Brian Baglin said there's mixed feelings.

"There's a lot of excitement. It's good to be getting out the door, but also it's sad, especially for those of us who have kids back at home."
