Open enrollment for health care begins Tuesday
Rochester, N.Y. -- While the US Government is partially closed, the new health insurance marketplace is open for business starting today.
People who dont have access to job-based health insurance can begin shopping today for subsidized private policies under the Affordable Care Act. Roughly 7 million Americans are expected to sign up for coverage.
Those seeking coverage can wait as late as December 15th to sign up for coverage to begin January 1st. Open enrollment ends March 31st.
Monthly premiums start as low as $134 for "catastrophic coverage" in the Greater Rochester area.
"Its like any big purchase," said Lynne Scalzo, vice-president of Health Care Reform at Excellus. Scalzo says its all about doing your homework. "We want you to think about how you want to spend that money, what are you buying, what you want to buy and where youre heading with that money."
13WHAM News This Morning spoke extensively with Scalzo. Those interviews will run after 7 on CW Rochester and be posted to the 13WHAM News This Morning section of this web site.
