Police arrest Batavia man in string of robberies

Batavia, N.Y.- Police in Genesee County arrested a man in a recent string of robberies.

Just before 1:00 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a burglary at the Rent-A-Center on West Main Street in Batavia. Police said an eyewitness heard the sound of glass breaking and called 911. The witness gave police a detailed description of the vehicle involved and assisted them in locating the suspect vehicle.

Police said they found the suspects, Mark Maltese, 43, and Robert Grant, 52, at a home on Colonial Boulevard and took them into custody.

Police also charged Maltese with the robberies that occurred over the last week at the Days Inn in the City of Batavia, the Best Western in the Town of Batavia and 7-Eleven in the Village of Oakfield.

Authorities said more charges may be pending.
