Rochester Mayor sworn in at bittersweet ceremony
Rochester, N.Y. - Lovely Warren was sworn in in the first few minutes of 2014.
Warren took the oath of office just after midnight at Strong Memorial Hospital at her grandfather's beside. Cecil McClary has been at Strong since suffering a massive stroke last week.
Warren said having him there was important because of the impact he had on her life and her decision to run for mayor.
Warren is Rochester's first female mayor, and one of the youngest to lead the city.
Among the first things she hopes to do is work on improving education in the city and bringing more jobs to the area.
"I'm going to make him proud. I do not take this job lightly. I will do everything I can to make sure that the people of Rochester are successful, Warren said. I believe in the people of our city and no matter what challenges we may face, we will face them together. We will be better for it, and we will look toward the future. We will not govern by looking backwards, we will govern by looking forwards.
A public swearing in ceremony is planned for Saturday noon, January 4, at the Rochester Auditorium Theatre.
