No confidence vote in Dr. Vargas
Rochester, N.Y. The Administrators Union of Rochester City School District has voted no confidence in Superintendent Bolgen Vargas.
This vote comes after, what the union is calling, years of lack of leadership.
Its the first time in the unions 34 year history that they have held a no confidence vote.
87% of the union, thats made up of principals and administrators in the Rochester City School District, voted no confidence in Vargas.
Union president, Deborah Rider says this vote will hopefully help the district move forward in a positive direction.
Our hope is that we continue to have those on-going meetings so that we can have a sense of a more collegial, collaborative, relationship and work towards discussing some of our issues so that going forward were all on the same page and moving the districts agenda, says Rider.
A spokesperson for the district says Dr. Vargas is not available for comment but Dr. Vargas did release this statement:
Improving student achievement will require a serious change in the way we manage our organization. I understand that these changes cause discomfort for many administrators. Our school district desperately needs to improve, and it is regrettable to see the leaders of the administrative union focused on creating friction among adults instead of solutions to serve children. My intent is to continue working with school administrators and every adult in this District to earn the confidence of the families we serve.
